Preamble

DISCLAIMER This post is written by Greg Mulholland, Senior Systems Engineer at VMware. VSAN rockstar, storage aficionado and all round good guy, Greg wanted to talk about his thoughts for vForum 2014 and some of his must see sessions this year!

Greg’s Must See at vForum AUS 2014

Luna Park is the venue for vForum this year, in large part to the convention center being a pile of rubble but also because we really want to have some fun and celebrate VMware’s 10 years in the country/region.

I’ve had the privilege of contributing to this year’s agenda led as always by stalwart Nathan Wheat one of our longest-serving Senior Systems Engineers and all round nice guy.

There are a few sessions for me that I really want to get along to see. I haven’t included my own sessions in this lot as clearly you should come along to them. I have noted them below. As in the past, there are two streams, the Tech Express sessions open to all attendees and the Access All Areas sessions which are open to AAP pass holders. These passes are very cheap compared to other events you might expect so to be fair I have broken down my top 5 for each category. In no particular order:

Tech Express (20 mins)

  • Deliver 100’s of applications to your virtual environment in seconds – Bruce Peram

  • Using Policy Based Management to simplify your automated IT – Grant Orchard

  • Streamline you enterprise provisioning with NSX and vCAC – Mary Yu, Matt Berry

  • Accelerate productivity and automation with VMware vCenter Orchestrator – Nathan Wheat

  • Lighten your burden: An introduction to VMware vCloud Air – Simona Lewis

All Access Pass (30/60 mins)

  • Just in Time Desktops. Deliver 100’s of desktops and apps in seconds with CloudVolumes and Project Fargo – David Head, Ramon Valery

  • Case Study: Delivering a highly scalable OpenStack self-service IaaS cloud with a VMware vSphere, VMware NSX and VMware Virtual SAN Software-Defined Datacenter. – Nick Bradford, Anthony Burke

  • Tech Preview: Looking ahead to what’s coming next for vSphere – Grant Orchard, Phil Helmling

  • VMware vCloud Air: Identify and deploying appropriate workloads in the cloud – Daryl Chantry

  • Who can you trust? Strategies and designs for implementing security in your Datacenter using VMware NSX – Trevor Gerdes, Andrew Babakian

You’ll need to attend the Sydney event for these sessions

vForum 2014

There are many more I really want to see but if I had the chance this is what I would be doing. Whether it’s semi-tech, deep-tech, strategy, business there will be something very worthwhile for you.
