I came across an interesting issue when deploying NSX manager at a Partner site. The issue was when deploying the NSX manager ova, after putting the parameters in an error would be displayed – “task cancelled by the user”.
I quickly checked that I didn’t hit cancel which I didn’t and went into troubleshooting mode. There aren’t many prerequisites for NSX manager to be installed. It essentially just needs to be able to talk to vCenter, connected to the management port group of a dVS (or simply have connectivity!) and voila.
I looked through the parameters of the OVA deploy and looked at the DNS search domain. What I was putting in was blank as it wasn’t mandatory. My hosts were part of the .local search domain so I matched that with the deployment. This resulted in a successful deployment.
TIP: Ensure correct DNS server and search domain when deploying NSX manager!
